What’s inside Discover the Bible

Most Bible reference works are organised for people who already know their way around Scripture. This set is organised for people who don’t. It follows the biblical order rather than a topical index, so a reader who works through it from the beginning ends with a sense of the whole storyline rather than a collection of disconnected passages.

Each book of the Bible is introduced with its historical setting, who wrote it, who it was written to, and what it was answering. The commentary then works through the text with maps, photographs of the lands and archaeology involved, charts and illustrated reconstructions.

Dália Mateus and María Augusta Lopes produced the set for Editorial Safeliz, the Spanish publishing house whose illustrated health and Bible reference works are distributed across Africa, Europe and Latin America. Safeliz’s editorial signature is heavy visual production applied to serious subject matter, and this set follows it.

How long does it take to work through the set?

Most readers and study groups take between one and two years. Working through one section a week gets a group through the complete set in roughly eighteen months, which is the pace most Bible study classes settle into.

Do I need Bible knowledge to use it?

No. The set assumes no theological training and explains terms, historical context and structure as it goes. It is designed to be the first serious study resource a reader owns.

Is this a commentary or a study Bible?
